GUEST TEACHER - JETHRO RAHAJAAN

Jethro Rahajaan started his dance journey 26 years ago by taking his first breakdancing class. From there on he went on learning many other forms of dance and movement like popping, locking, housedance, hiphop, contemporary dance, ballet, capoeira, tricking, tai chi and qi gong. He taught dance in various dance school in the Netherlands and today he still performs as a dancer.

in 2015 Jethro found himself on the floor on Club Lite and immediately fell in love with Ecstatic Dance. His dance abilities became clear to the organisers of Ecstatic Dance at Odessa and Jethro was asked to become the ceremony leader there. Later he also used his skills to lead the ceremonies at Ecstatic Dance Amsterdam. It wasn’t until 2020 that he started to play full journeys as an Ecstatic Dance DJ.

Jethro is a meditation teacher and likes to combine movement with mindfulness to help anchor people in their bodies ring Ecstatic Dance ceremonies, workshops and retreats, but it’s also noticeable in his DJ sets. He likes to read the crowd during his sets, to see and feel where their bodies want to go. The journeys are often described as epic and cinematic, and with clear waves. People often give back to him that they can tell he is a dancer by the way he plays music.

“I was dancing for so many years already and knew thousands of moves, but when I stood there on the Ecstatic Dance floor for the first time, I froze. I didn’t what to do for some minutes, and just looked around in awe, seeing so many people moving freely and authentically, without moves… That’s when it hit me, I started feeling into my body and I let it move the way it really wanted to move. That’s when I knew I had found a new passion.”
